Kantipur stand-off ends after union withdraws protest programmes
The CPN-Maoist affiliated trade union, which had been obstructing distribution of national dailies of Kantipur Publications for over a week, has withdrawn its protest programmes from Sunday.

The CPN-Maoist -aligned All Nepal Revolutionary Communication, Printing and Publication Worker’s Union stated that they decided to stop the ongoing obstruction keeping in mind the inconvenience the readers had to face because of the obstruction and management’s request for the same.

“We have stopped the programmes of protests considering the plea from the management and also because of the inconvenience faced by the readers because of the obstruction ,” read a press statement issued by Ram Deep Acharya, union’s coordinator, “We hope that the management will take our demands positively.”

The union had been obstructing the distribution and circulation of Kantipur Publication’s national dailies–’Kantipur’ and ‘The Kathmandu Post’ putting forth seven-point demand. In a show of solidarity, over a dozen print, television and radio networks had joined forces urging the government to intervene to resolve the standoff in Kantipur.

The trade union’s decision to stop the ongoing obstruction came after the Publication’s management urged the agitating union members to return back to work and resolve the crisis through dialogue. Following which, distribution of The Kathmandu Post and Kantipur dailies had resumed in Pokhara from Friday after an agreement between the agitating union workers and Kantipur Publications.
